Xieng Khuang's trade in processed goods, handicrafts climbs to 260b kip

Xieng Khuang province has achieved a trade value of more than 260 billion kip in the processing industry and handicrafts sector, while the value of imports and exports exceeded 316 billion kip in the first nine months of this fiscal year.

The province's Industry and Commerce Department said Xien g Khuang has worked to promote the processing industry and handicraft production. There are now 188 processing plants including 16 large factories, 14 medium factories, and 158 small factories.

In addition, the province has seven l arge handicraft production facilities, and 40 small workshops.

Trade in the processing industry and handicraft sector has reached more than 260 billion kip, which is 56.58 percent of the plan for the year. Of this, 229 billion kip or 53.66 percent of the target figure has come from the processing industry and 30 billion kip or 95.45 percent from trade in handicrafts.

The value of the province's exports at more than 192 billion represents 62.92 percent of the plan for the year, a reduction of 25.64 percent compared to the same time last year.

The main exports were agricultural products worth 183 billion kip, accounting for 95.18 percent of all products; timber and wood processed products worth 8.55 billion kip, accounting for 4.44 percent; non-timber forest products worth 6.5 million kip, accounting for 0.34 percent; and mineral products worth 70 million kip, accounting for 0.03 percent.

The province also imported 124 billion kip of goods or 70.90 percent of its plan, an increase of 10.12 percent compared to the same period last year.

The main imports were fuel and gas worth 78.33 billion kip, accounting for 63.15 percent of all products; construction materials worth 25.75 billion kip, accounting for 20.76 percent; materials used in investment worth 12.37 billion kip, accounting for 9.97 percent; and consumer items, clothing, vehicle spare parts and electronic goods worth 7.58 billion kip, accounting for 6.11 percent.

The import and export figures have resulted in a trade deficit of 68.40 billion kip, while Xieng Khuang is currently selling and exchanging 41 product types.
