Laos-Japan institute continuing to boost culture and business
The Laos-Japan Human Resource Development Institute (LJI) will continue contributing to capacity building in local sectors along with Japanese investment promotion in Laos.
It is helping to strengthen, promote and develop the various economic sectors in Laos to integrate with the region, especially in the areas of business and culture.
The 4th joint coordination committee meeting for the project was held on Friday at the National University of Laos to review the project achievements over the last six months from April to September and discuss plans for the year ahead.
The meeting was chaired by Vice President of the National University of Laos (NUOL), Associate Prof. Dr Houngphet Chanthavong and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) representative to Laos, Ms Saeda Makimoto.
The institute carries out various activities related to human resources development and exchange activities towards strengthening the capacity of the business sector in Laos, supporting Japanese investment in Laos and fostering mutual understanding between Laos and Japan.
The project is being carried out through the LJI with cooperation between JICA and the NUOL running from September 2014 to September 2019 with the joint coordination committee meeting every six months.
Over the last six months the institute has continued to apply activities in business administration and culture working with Japanese experts to improve project implementation, especially supporting the search for funding sources to allow participants to develop their skills within the country and overseas.
The institute has continued to cooperate with JICA in developing management and curriculums including in the fields of teaching and training for local companies and other organisations.
The institute has also engaged in technical and cultural exchange with students from four Japanese universities and has received 11 scholarships from Yamada Foundation in Japan.
The institute also joined with Honda Foundation in selecting the two best NUOL students who received the Honda Y-E-S award 2016, held a job fair and organised a technical exchange meeting for business planning between the three countries of Laos, Cambodia and Thailand.
For its one year plan ahead the institute will continue to develop human resources to strengthen business sector development and organise meetings and cultural exchanges with domestic organisations and Japan.
