Huawei maintains third position in global smartphone market
Vendors shipped a total of 343.3 million smartphones worldwide in the second quarter of 2016, that was relatively flat, up just 0.3 percent from 2Q15 when vendors shipped 342.4 million units.
Huawei shipped 32.1 million units in the second quarter of 2016, capturing the third position with a market share of 9.4 percent, narrowing the gap with Apple, according to preliminary results from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.
The growth of global tablet shipments declined 12 .3 percent to 38.7 million in the second quarter of 2016, from 44.1 million recorded in the second quarter of 2015. The top five vendors are Apple, Samsung, Lenovo, Huawei and Amazon.
Huawei and Amazon both defied the decline, posting substantial growth, while Apple and Samsung shipments slumped, according to IDC data.
Huawei was the fourth largest vendor, with its shipments growing 71 percent to 2.2 million units in the second quarter of 2016. Its market share also increased from 2.9 percent in the second quarter last year to 5.6 percent during the same period in 2016.
GFK (Gesellschaft für Konsumforschung) reported that Huawei's share of the global smartphone market reached 11.4 percent by the end of May, making it one of the world's top three vendors and further distancing itself from the second-t ier brands.
Huawei's market share in the US$500-US$600 smartphone range has also increased by 10 percent over the same period last year. In China, it continued to be the industry leader with a market share of 18.6 percent, according to GFK's June report.
Its smartphone market share has reached over 15 percent in some European countries.

In Egypt, its smartphone market share has reached 21.9 percent. In New Zealand, its market share has increased to 15 percent, making it the one of the top three vendors in the country
In Malaysia, its market share increased to 9.6 percent in June, making it the No.3 vendor in the country. It dominates the high-end smartphone (US$500-600) category.
According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, global smartphone shipments grew 1percent annually to reach 340 million units in Q2 2016.
Huawei maintained its No. 3 position, with 9 percent global smartphone market share in Q2 2016. China smartphone shipments increased 4 percent annually from 105.1 million units in Q2 2015 to 109.0 million in Q2 2016.
Huawei shipped 19.1 million smartphones to achieve 17.5 percent market share in China during Q2 2016, making it the top smartphone vendor.
The second largest vendor was OPPO, with a record 13.9 percent market share in China in Q2 2016. Vivo, Xiaomi and Apple took the third, fourth and fifth places.
