Nearly half of 2016 tax target already collected

In the first four months of the year, the government collected nearly half of its tax revenue target for all of 2016, local media reported yesterday, citing Kong Vibol, director of the General Department of Taxation (GDT).

A total of $638 million was collected from January through April, a 21 per cent increase compared to the same time last year, and 45 per cent of the target for the year.

Revenue from the special tax, which includes an April 1 hike on automobile parts, cigarettes, beer and alcohol, increased by approximately 25 per cent during the period.
