Savan Logistics launches logistics business in Dry Port-ICD

Savan Logistics Co., Ltd. has taken milestone steps to launch its logistics business with a dry port inland container depot in Savan Seno Special Economic Zone (Savan Seno SEZ).

The logistics park was officially opened in Savan Park, Zone C, Savannakhet province recently.

The opening was attended by provincial Governor Dr Souphan Keomixay, Minister of Public Works and Transport Dr Bounchanh Sinthavong, Deputy Minister and Vice President and Head of the Lao National Committee for Special Economic Zones Secretariat, Ms Bouatha Khatthiya, and Managing Director of Savan Logistics Co., Ltd Mr Daovone Phachanthavong.

Dr Souphan stressed that this event was a meaningful and memorable event for Savan Seno SEZ and Savan Park, Zone C as well as for Savannakhet province as a whole.

This will be an important factor for the socio-economic development of Savannakhet, especially for the logistics and transportation, convenience, effective shipping along with international standards, safe times, and reduced transportation costs, he added.

“These factors will be an important investment promotion for both national and international potential investors in Savan Seno SEZ and Savan Park, Z one C as well as Savannakhet province step by step,” Dr Souphan said.

He strongly believed that this logistics park will be a clearing place for transferring knowledge of logistics and transportation in order to provide more working opportunities, better living conditions as well as to eradicate poverty in minority peoples step by step.

“Your establishment here builds more trust and potential for other investors, both national and international, to come to Savannakhet and will work towards the promotion of the development of the province,” Mr Daovone said.

In the first phase, the company invested more than 24 billion kip (about US$3 million) on a total area of 2.2 hectares. It plans to expand onto 11 hectares in the second phase in the next five years and 20 hectares in the third phase.

Chief Operating Manager of Savan Logistics Mr Jean Pierre Grzelczyk explained that to establish a logistics park, they first found the best location at Savan Park because the infrastructure was already there.

The company has invested in the latest technologies to manage Inland Container Data Management System (ICDMS) hardware and software so they can track the positioning of any container.

Mr Grzelczyk said with the Lao connection to the world everything should go quickly like e-commerce, electronic documents, sealed containers and all processes to facilitate international freight.

“For our services we will provide storage containers, lift on and lift off operations, switching trucks, less than container load (LCL), full container load (FCL), as well as repair and maintenance to containers.”

“With our LCL services we can send 1kg to 25 tonnes from our logistics park to ICDs in Guangzhou China, Hanoi, Bangkok, Kuala Lumper, Singapore, and from those locations to here.”

“Today Laos is moving into a new era for logistics systems. Savan logistics has connected land locked Laos to become a land link,” Mr Grzelczyk said.
