Powerchina Resources assists Phongsaly people affected by cold

Powerchina Resources Ltd in Laos has come to the aid of Phongsaly province remote area people suffering from the recent cold weather as part of its long-term corporation social responsibility programme while investing in the country for public benefit.

As the recent cold snap hit the northern part of the country, temperatures plummeted to freezing (0 centigrade) threatening the health of local people in remote areas so Powerchina Resources Ltd in Laos mobilised funding to urgently assist.

Staff from Powerchina Resources Ltd in Laos contributed around 37.66 million kip out of their own pockets and some necessary goods to help local people battle against the extreme cold.

Mr Xuan Ligang, who is Deputy General Manager of Nam Ou River Basin Hydropower Co., Ltd, as representative of Powerchina Resources Ltd presented goods to the impacted people from Phou Soum Neua, Hat Kor, Hat Fei, Kor Mai and Horn villages in Phongsaly district.

The handover ceremony was witnessed by Phongsaly district Governor Mr Lekdouangkay Somphakhoun.

Thi s donation was organised by Powerchina Resources (Lao) Sole Ltd and generated a positive response from staff of different projects in Laos and promoted a spirit of good will, friendship, comradeship, and partnership between neighbours Laos and China and showed the caring a attitude of Powerchina personnel.

Mr Lekdouangkay said that Powerchina Resources, as a large foreign investor in Laos, helped to improve facilities and infrastructure, promoted employment and carried out projects for public benefit as part of their corporation social responsibility which would accelerate economic and social development in the country.

“When the Lao people encounter some difficulties the staff from Powerchina can provide support which reflects the deep friendship between Laos and China,” he said.

Representing the local government and people he expressed his thanks to Powerchina and their staff for their noble efforts.
