Asean Business Awards Laos open for applications

The Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) yesterday announced that local businesses can now apply for the Asean Business Awards Laos (ABAL) 2016.

Applications can be downloaded from www.abis2016.com with the deadline for submissions being April 30.

The ABAL award is under the framework known as the Asean Business Investment Summit and Asean Business Awards, a series of annual events organised by the Asean Business Advisory Council.

Vice President of the LNCCI, Mr Oudet Souvannavong, said this was the first ever ABAL and it would be organised on a yearly basis.

Mr Oudet stressed the awards served not only to recognise outstanding Lao enterprises but also to strengthen the over-all competitiveness of Laos in the Asean Economic Community.

The awards are open to all LNCCI members, with enterprises both big and small encouraged to send in applications. The awards presentation ceremony is slated for the end of June.

KPMG has been appointed the official auditing company to ensure transparency, fairness and professionalism in the selection process.

There are various classes of awards including a Lao Priority Integration Sector Excellence Award, along with one winner each from the eight industry sectors of ICT, textiles, logistics, wood-based businesses, infrastructure, tourism, energy, and agriculture.

Applicants must have demonstrated the capacity to pursue sector integration in Laos as evidenced in its economic contribution to the development of Laos.

Small-Medium Enterprise awards will be presented to two winners for each category of growth, innovation, employment, and corporate social responsibility.

Special awards will be presented to one winner in three categories including a Young Entrepreneur award. Applicants must demonstrate outstanding potential and results in businesses and social entrepreneurship.

Women Leader awards offer female appli cants the chance to demonstrate their skill and performance excellence as leaders.

The Friend of Laos award is for foreign business applicants operating in the country that have contributed to socio-economic development.

The 40 Years Excellence Awards will be presented to 10 winners who have demonstrated a proven track record of business since the country became the Lao PDR in 1975.

The winners of this year's awards will go on to the regional Asean level where they will compete against some of the most reputable firms in Southeast Asia.

The regional competition is tentatively set for September during the Asean Business Investment Summit 2016 and 28th Asean Summit, which will be held in Vientiane.

A team of judges representing academia, the economic ministries, and the business community has been appointed to select the winners in each category, with the process meticulously vetted by KPMG.
