Regional project to mentor business start-ups

Some 25 start-up founders from Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar will meet from April 1-3 to launch the Mekong's Next Top Mentors Project in Vientiane.

According to TOHLAO Coworking Space's press release yesterday, the new regional project is the first of its kind to be organised in Laos and will include a regional mentoring programme, start-up seminars, and regional matching of investors and start-ups. It will be conducted in the American Centre at That Dam.

The programme was initiated under the umbrella of Tigers Mekong, a project run by the US State Department that aims to mentor start-ups in the region so they can become the next mentors to influence the mindset of other start-ups.

The project also enhances regional start-up networks to be a marketplace for investors and encourages entrepreneurs to make contributions for the next programme and get more insightful information about regional markets.

During the new project, all start-ups will listen to five mentors from each of the five countries, to learn how to look for opportunities in doing business.

The mentors will share their information and experiences in a start-up mindset workshop (entrepreneurial mindset), problem solving, identifying key players in the industry, customer validation, cross culture entrepreneurship, engagement, retention, attraction, and real case studies.

Mekong's Next Top Mentors Project is being organised by TOHLAO Coworking Space and the Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion Department of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and supported by the Lao Women's Business Association.

The project hopes to enable start-ups and entrepreneurs to make further contributions to economic development in Laos and the region.
