Lao Airlines plans to lower airfares after drop in fuel price
Lao Airlines plans to lower its airfares after the price of aviation fuel continued to decline on the world market.
The compa ny has not set a date for when the reduced fares might be approved, Lao Airlines Vice President Mr Sengpraseuth Mathouchanh told Vientiane Times recently.
“We are currently waiting to hold a committee meeting to discuss the issue and ensure our business o perations remain profitable,” he said.
In previous years, the airline has offered cheap airfares only as promotions but has not lowered fares on a permanent basis, according to the Corporate Planning and Marketing Division.
This downward adjustment would be the airline's first after operating for many years, the division official said.
Every domestic and international route fare has remained unchanged since the airline updated its fee structure in October last year.
Domestic flights are offered from Vientiane to Luang Prabang, Savannakhet, Champassak, Xieng Khuang, Oudomaxay, Luang Namtha and Huayxai.
Meanwhile on international routes Lao Airlines flies to and from Laos and Cambodia, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, and the Republic of Korea.
As oil prices on the world market continue to fall, airlines around the world are adjusting their ticketing prices downwards.
The latest fuel price reduction for motorists came into effect on Friday in Vientiane and the provinces.
