SOEs gain $463.1 million through auctions of shares

State-owned enterprises earned VND10.4 trillion (US$463.1 million) in 143 share auctions held on the HCM Stock Exchange and the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the bourses said on January 15.

Experts consider 2015 to be a year of well-implemented equitisation, divestments and initial public offerings (IPO).

The northern HNX bourse organised 93 auctions worth VND5.94 trillion($264.5 million), while the southern HoSE bourse's 50 auctions helped to mobilise VND4.45 trillion ($198.1 million).

Thus, the average value of each session on HNX and HoSE was nearly VND64 billion ($2.84 million) and VND89 billion($3.96 million), respectively.

According to HoSE, the most notable IPOs of the year were of the Vietnam Airlines Corporation, Sai Gon Port One Member Limited Company and the Vietnam Seafood Corporation.

Meanwhile, on HNX, the IPO with the highest offering was of Vinacomin's Power Corporation with 236.3 million shares, while the IPO that saw the largest number of participants was of the Hai Phong Water Supply Limited Company in which 652 organisations and individuals participated.

The northern bourse said large SOEs that conducted IPOs included the Viet Nam National Coal - Mineral Industries Holding Corporation Limited, Viet Bac Mining Company, Vegetables and Agriculture Product Corporation and Vietnam Tea Corporation, besides the Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation. HNX also held the auction of Vinamotor shares in early 2016, mobilising VND1.2 trillion ($53.4 million).

The two bourses said they organised several auctions for the first time in 2015 to attract more investors and saw good results. These included batch auctions of Cienco 5, Cienco6, Kim Lien Hotel and Ha Tinh Pharmaceutical JSC, besides Thanh Hoa Medical Materials and Food Joint Union.

HoSE plans to conduct more important equitisations of large SOEs this year, such as of telecommunications provider MobiFone, Sai Gon Commercial Corporation (Satra) and Ben Thanh Corporation.
