Stocks end mixed, while energy stocks gain

Vietnamese shares ended mixed this morning on the two local markets, while energy stocks rose.

 

The benchmark VN Index on the HCM Stock Exchange declined 0.12 points to close at 564.14 points, while the HNX Index on the Ha Noi Stock Exchange rose 0.29 points to close at 76.10 points.

The local energy sector gained this morning, even though the American benchmark crude West Texas Intermediate (WTI) lost 0.58 per cent on the global market.

Among the local energy stocks, PetroVietnam Gas Corporation (GAS) increased 1.73 per cent and PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Services Corporation (PVD) gained four per cent.

With the largest stocks losing the maximum, such as dairy firm Vinamilk (VNM), which lost 0.81 per cent; food and beverage producer Masan Group (MSN), which was down 0.65 per cent; and real estate developer Vingroup (VIC), which lost 1.04 per cent, the VN-Index went down quickly.

At the same time, other large-cap stocks gained such as Vietcombank (VCB), which added gained 0.47 per cent, and Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (CTG), which gained 0.56 per cent.

There were 125 losers and 158 gainers in the morning session, while 404 stocks remained unchanged or were not traded,

The market traded more than 81 million shares, worth VND1.131 trillion ($50.36 million).
