Savannakhet's fuel imports drop over 6 percent

Savannakhet province identified that petrol and gas imports decreased by about 6.39 percent compared to the same period last fiscal year, according to a provincial Industry and Commerce Office report.

Over the past three months, imports of petrol and gas amounted to around US$27.6 million, dropping on the back of world fuel prices.

Meanwhile, the value of exports was recorded at over US$179 million, or a decrease of 10.7 percent compared to the same period last year. The province's major export goods were minerals, which earned over US$111 million, a decrease of 24.49 percent in comparison to the same period last year.

The report said the total volume of imported goods in the first three months of this fiscal year stood at more than US$118 million, up 27.34 percent compared to the same period last year.

In addition, imported goods to be used in various projects were valued at over US$37 million or an increase of 139.64 percent compared to the corresponding period last year.

For the second quarter of this fiscal year 2015-16, the province is looking at increasing the volume of trade to about US$672 million, while the value of exports should be about US$380 million and the value of imports about US$292 million.

To ensure the trade promotion plan is more effective, the province is set to promote trade at the Laos-Vietnam and Laos-Thailand borders as well as seeking marketplaces for local products in regional markets.

According to a report for the first three months, the trade value of the province stood at about US$297.3 million, or a 3.57 percent increase.
