Vientiane to hold special business meeting
Authorities in Vientiane are gearing up to promote the business units owned by locals and foreign investors in the capital through an exclusive meeting to be held in the city on December 30.
Speak ing at yesterday's press conference for the meeting, Director General of the Vientiane Industry and Commerce Department, Mr Berlin Phetchantharath said that the meeting seeks to promote the dissemination of the guidelines of the government as well as the policy directives of the Vientiane authorities.
“We especially continue to promote local businesses in Vientiane through the translation of messages on the government directives regarding commercial products and services,” he said.
He also noted that the meeting between Vientiane administrative officials and the business sector will enable both sides to hear about one and other's problems and to consult with each other to find appropriate solutions.
“Several imp ortant issues will be discussed at the meeting, especially for the recruitment issue in relation to the responsibility of employers for their labourers, tax payments as well as business competition domestica lly and internationally,” Mr Berlin said.
He added that this is also part of the move for the promotion and revision of local businesses in preparation for the inception of the Asean Economic Community at the end of this year.
At the meeting, there will be 300 business representatives and 50 government officials taking part in the discussions.
A total of 30 booths from 28 business units of the ‘One District One Product' scheme of Vientiane will be displaying their products during the meeting on the 7th floor of Lao-ITECC Shopping Mall on December 30.
During the meeting, outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs will be given certificates of congratulations by the Vientiane authorities.
Participants at the event will also be able to hear about the development visions of Vientiane from now until 2030 and the strategic development plan of Vientiane until 2025 and other important economic development goals in the capital from 2016-20.
According to the department, Vientiane now has a total of more than 30,000 registered business units, which are owned by local businesses and foreign investors.
