SCG provides educational support for grateful Lao students

SCG, a leading Asean business conglomerate, is continuing to strengthen regional links through its “SCG sharing the dream” project for the fourth year in Laos.

SCG believes that by developing people in Asean it will act as a catalyst for creating development and a strong region.

The project recently provided another 230 scholarships, each consisting of 1,625,000 kip cash, plus educational materials including, books, bags, pens, pencils, hats and T-shirts for students.

The 150 scholarships have been awarded to secondary school students in Vientiane with 80 going to secondary school students in Khammouane province which is added 30 more scholarships from the previous year.

A scholarship presentation ceremony for the 4th SCG Sharing the Dream project was held recently at Lao-Japan Budo Centre in Vientiane and attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Sports Ms Sengdeuan Lachanthaboun, while another at the Conference Hall in Khammuan was attended by Khammuan Deputy Provincial Governor Mr Khamsy Outthivong.

SCG Vice President-Regional Business Mr Aree Chavalicheewingul said “Believe in Human Value is one of ideals that SCG uses and implements because we believe that for society and the country to be strengthened it must start from the quality of human resources, especially they have to be a well-educated and good people.”

SCG has concentrated on developing the skills of young people under the “SCG sharing the dream” project in several Asean countries. It is dedicated to enhancing the development of youth by opening opportunities for them to study to make their dreams come true as the f uture leaders of their nations.

Mr Aree added “The SCG Sharing the Dream project has already helped the dreams of Asean youth including Laos for the last three years. Students who received scholarships improved their school results and progressed to study at a higher level. SCG is proud to be promoting this project creating human resource development for Laos and for the development of the nation and Asean.”

Mr Ton Saenkhot, 18, a year seven student from Bandon Secondary School in Vientiane said he was proud and happy to receive the scholarship from the SCG Sharing the Dream project. He hopes to use the money saved to graduate from secondary school in preparation for studying at university. In the future, he dreams of being a police officer to help protect the country, as well as providing extra income to assist his parents.

Another student, Ms Khammeun Sitthiounthavong, 15, a year five student from Dongkasaen Secondary School in Khammouane province expressed her delight with receiving her scholarship and thanked SCG for their support. She plans to use her scholarship to be a better student and a good daughter to her parents. Her future dream is to study medicine at university so she can become a doctor to treatment patients in need and have income to share with her parents.

SCG this year is presenting additional scholarships to 12 previous SCG Sharing the Dream awardees to recognise their outstanding achievements in education, sports, the arts and other special areas that bring honour to their schools and society.

The SCG Sharing the Dream project continues in Laos for the fourth year in cooperation with Action with Lao Children targeting year five to seven secondary school students in Vientiane and Khammouane province. A project committee made up of Action with Lao Children, Vientiane and Khammouane Education and Sport Departments' Secondary School Sections and the Children Education Development Centre as well as SCG staff has been selecting exceptional students who have been concentrating on their studies.
