The number of Korean visitors and investors in Laos has increased after the start of direct flights between Laos and the Republic of Korea, and one of the latest projects is a Korean food court in Vientiane.
The development, which comprises a food court and offices for rent, is located in Phonpapao village near to the Vientiane Times offices in Sisattanak district.
Once complete, it will be a large-scale Korean investment.
The shopping centre will offer food and brand name products from different countries in the region and around the world, especially from Korea, the developer's representative Mr Saengphet Sirimanotham told V ientiane Times on Monday.
He believes the food court will be of special interest to foreign visitors and will bring even more investors to Laos, particularly from Korea.
The building will comprise seven floors with around US$5 million expected to be expended in construction, said Mr Saengphet.
The project is slated for completion in 2017.
The project is owned by Chung Bang Industry Development Co., Ltd. and the sub-contractor is Tepnimid Construction Sole Co., Ltd.
The building is currently undergoing modification, while a concrete wall surrounding it is now complete.
As required for services and tourism development, the number of shopping malls and trading centres in Vientiane is expanding.
The Republic of Korea is the fourth largest investor in Laos after China, Thailand and Vietnam, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
Various shopping malls are currently under construction in Vientiane, such as the Asean Centre in Sikhay village, Sikhottabong district, the new Thongkhankham market in Chanthabouly district, and Nong Chanh shopping mall.
Meanwhile have already opened for business, such as the Vientiane Centre, That Luang Square and the new ITECC Mall.
These developments will boost trade and investment between Laos and foreign countries and help to bring visitors from every corner of the world.
The number of tourist arrivals has now reached 4.1 million, up about 10 percent from 3.7 million in 2013, according to a Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism report.
