Belgian firm wins Thai Nguyen sewage project

The Thai Nguyen Sewerage and Urban Infrastructure Development Company Ltd has signed a deal with Belgium's Sodraep Company for consultancy and supply and installation of equipment for its centralised sewerage and wastewater treatment system in Thai Nguyen city.

The project will cost VND439 billion (US$19.6 million), with Belgium providing ODA loans of VND252 billion ($11.2 million) and the rest coming from counterpart funding.

It will salvage, rehabilitate, repair, upgrade and lay sewerage lines, runoff water pumping stations, ring culverts and wastewater collector pipes from residential communities to centralised water treatment units to reduce pollution, protect ground and surface water from contamination and prevent flooding.

The treatment plants will process wastewater to prescribed standards before discharge into rivers and streams and, in combination with the northern city's drainage and sewage treatment systems, meet the needs of 85 per cent of the city's population by 2020.

Work on the project will get underway next year.
