Shares end mixed on sluggish trading

Shares rose slightly this morning on the HCM Stock Exchange, with the benchmark VN-Index adding 0.2 per cent to close at 611.7 points.

 

The market condition was negative as the losers outnumbered the advancers by 94 to 88, while 128 other stocks closed unchanged.

Blue chips fell as many of the largest stocks by market capitalisation such as Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), Vietcombank (VCB), Phu My Fertiliser (DPM) and Vietinbank (CTG) lost value.

A few of the large-cap shares gained, with dairy giant Vinamilk (VNM) adding 2.4 per cent and PV Gas (GAS) rising 0.4 per cent.

Nearly 44 million shares, worth VND906 billion (US$40.4 million), were traded here by the end of the morning.

Only 10 stocks saw trading of more than one million shares, led by Bac Giang Exploitable Mineral Co (BGM) with 2.4 million of its shares being exchanged.

On the smaller bourse in Ha Noi, the HNX-Index decreased 0.2 per cent to end at 81.6 points, with 25 million shares worth VND288.3 billion ($13 million) being exchanged.
