Blue chips drive market growth

Shares extended their rallies on the two markets this morning, boosted by blue chips.

 

On the HCM Stock Exchange, the VN-Index added another 0.33 per cent to close at 613.7 points.

In the smaller market in Ha Noi, the HNX-Index edged up 0.15 per cent to end at 82 points.

Large-cap stocks such as Vinamilk (VNM), FPT Corp (FPT), VinGroup (VIC), and the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BID), besides Vietcombank (VCB) advanced, but their growth slowed down to below one per cent each.

Private equity Masan Group (MSN) was the largest gainer with a rise of more than two per cent.

The overall market condition was rather neutral with 179 stocks rising, 170 falling and 330 closing unchanged.

A total of 99 million shares, worth VND2.3 trillion (US$102.7 million), were traded on the two exchanges by the end of the morning.

The afternoon session will start at 1pm.
