Young entrepreneur association focuses on future
Young Entrepreneur Association of Laos (YEAL) is determined to work harder strengthening the capacity of its members to ensure they are equipped and fully contribute to socioeconomic development in years to come.
In her opening remarks of the 3rd Congress of the association, the outgoing YEAL President Ms Valy Vetsaphong said the association is committed to enhancing the capacity of members to enable their businesses to contribute domestically and regionally.
Since 2010, the association has been working hard to expand the number of branches which have increased from 12 to 17 nationwide.
“We intend to boost the strength of the association so there will be more incoming members over the years to come,” she said.
She noted that young entrepreneurs would play a key part in the future success of the association, so they should be trained and equipped with outstanding leadership skills that are domestically and internationally recognised.
According to a report of the association, a total of 498 companies were now members of the association, a 139 percent incre ase compared to five years ago.
Its members also created 25,500 jobs with a total of 8,950 being female employees.
At the meeting, Ms Valy also highlighted the past achievements of the association and unveiled their five year plan for the newly-elected leaders to implement.
Meanwhile, Secretary General of Lao Youth Union Dr Vilayvong Bouddakham, who co-chaired the meeting, also noted that the past achievements of the association highlighted its important role in socioeconomic development.
“Young business entrepreneurs have now become a key factor for regional integration in the business sector, especially the Asean Economic Community at the end of this year,” he said.
He also called for the young business people to pay close attention to world trends to understand international economic structures, challenges and opportunities.
Dr Hongkham Souvannavong, who is President and Chief Executive Officer at TV Lao and also YEAL Vice President, has been elected as new President of YEAL, and the Former President of YEAL Ms Valy Vetsaphong is going to a new post as Vice President of the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI).
Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Ms Khamchanh Vongsengboun, Ministry of Industry and Commerce Office Head Mr Somvang Ninthavong and other senior guests were also present at the meeting.
