Self Holding Co., Ltd. promotes agriculture investment in Laos

Self Holding Co., Ltd. a company dedicated to promoting improvement in the quality standard of agriculture produce in Laos, also known for their pioneer initiative in the agarwood quality improvement project together with agarwood farmers, is now collaborating with the Agriculture Promotion Association in Vientiane on another agriculture initiative urging the support of the government to promote organic products for export to foreign countries.

The company and the association have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the China Green Food Development Centre to develop organic products in Laos, especially vegetables and fruits, to meet the international standard for export to China.

The agreement was signed last week in Vientiane between Self Holding Co., Ltd. CEO, Mr Frederick Tan, the Vientiane Agriculture Promotion Association Chairman, Mr Thongsa Sirimoungkhoun, and the Chin a Green Food Development Centre (CGFDC) Deputy Director, Mr Zhou Donglin.

The ceremony was attended by government officials from the Agriculture Department, the agriculture promotion section, Forestry Department and Ministry of Home Affairs along with overseas business partners and representatives.

Under the memorandum of understanding, Self Holding Co., Ltd. together with the Vientiane Agriculture Promotion Association will work with organic farmers at ground level with the support of the Agriculture Department's organ ic inspection unit to achieve the International Organic Certification standard matching the China Green Food standard for import into China.

Self Holding Co., Ltd. together with CGFDC will introduce advanced technology and techniques to train and help farmers in the cultivation of organic products to meet the international standards and requirements of organic certification.

The company will encourage farmers' participation in their membership registration in recognition of their organic produce and initial certification to ensure Lao organic products are recognised and accepted under the CGFDC.

The CGFDC, represented by Mr Zhou Dongling, will assist in the promotion and procurement of Lao organic products endorsed by the centre for import into China.

On the same occasion, the company and government officials from the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry represented by the ministry's Forest Department Deputy Director General Mr Boualy Phameuang discussed agarwood development in Laos for the benefit of Lao farmers and the promotion of the agarwood business in Laos for access to international markets.

The company plans to fulfill its collaboration with agarwood farmers around the country to achieve their joint development in the quality improvement project, reaching inoculation of 3 million agarwood trees, with the number to increase to 6 million trees over the next five years.

Self Holding Co., Ltd. is working with the Lao government to promote agriculture and forestry products on a commercial basis in order to attract foreign investors.

Most Lao farmers are still unfamiliar with the knowledge and techniques needed to grow high quality organic products, various advanced techniques to improve the quality and processing of agarwood, and the ability to have better access to financing in support of their farming requirements.

As such, the company's initiative will play a very important role in bridging and helping Lao farmers by reaching out at international level to seek better support and enhance agriculture and forestry products.
