Plenty of space for exhibitors at Vientiane Expo 2015

The organising committee for the inaugural Vientiane Expo has reassured businesses there is enough booth space for Lao and foreign firms at Lao-ITECC‘s new building from November 28 to December 7.

The organisers had allocated 70 percent for local businesses with 30 percent for businesses from other countries in the region, according to the plan.

Now, in response to requests for space from businesses in the region the organising committee was reviewing the plan and may have to increase the number of booths, an official confirmed.

Office Head of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and Secretary of Vientiane Expo 2015, Mr Somvang Inthavong, addressed a press conference in Vientiane on Monday and gave details on preparations for the event.

“While the committee had expected that about 600 booths would be required with about 400 for Lao companies and the rest for other countries, it now appears that more than 1,000 booths will be needed to satisfy the requests of participants from countries in the region,” he said.

Many countries wanting additional booths include China, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, Republic of Korea and other Asean nations.

He explained that handicrafts, consumer goods and electronic devices would be on sale at the expo and the organisers expected more than 100,000 visitors during the event.

The first Vientiane Expo will showcase outstanding national and regional products, along with marking the 40th anniversary of the Lao PDR.

The event will also feature local products that play significant roles in the socio-economic development of Laos as well as being a platform for local and regional businesses to network and engage in business-matching activities.

A special highlight will be the presentation of certificates of congratulation to businesspeople who have contributed to the development of Laos over the past four decades.

Foodstuffs, agricultural products, wooden furniture, interior décor items, gems and jewellery will also be on display.
