Blue chips lead market rebound

Shares rebounded this morning as the performance of large-cap stocks improved.

The VN-Index added 0.54 per cent to close at 593.61 points on the HCM Stock Exchange.

Many blue chips rallied, helping the market.

Insurer Bao Viet Holdings (BVH) climbed for the second day, adding another 2.7 per cent, while Vietcombank (VCB), Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BID) and VinGroup (VIC) also saw modest gains of 0.5 to 1.5 per cent, thanks to bright prospects of third-quarter earnings.

The overall market condition was rather positive, with the gainers outnumbering the losers by 105 to 93, while 112 others closed unchanged.

More than 53 million shares worth VND929 billion (US$41.5 million) were traded on the HCM City's market by the end of the morning.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also rose 0.5 per cent to end at 81.4 points, with more than eight million shares, worth VND224 billion ($10 million), changing hands.

The afternoon session will begin at 1pm.
