GDP grows at 6.5 per cent in nine months

Viet Nam's gross domestic product (GDP) grew at an estimated 6.5 per cent in the past nine months of 2015, the General Statistics Office said on September 29.

 

The GDP of the industrial and construction sector posted a growth of 9.57 per cent, and that of the services sector increased 6.17 per cent, while the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector's GDP jumped 2.08 per cent during the period.

In the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sector, forestry posted the largest growth of 7.89 per cent in comparison with the same period last year, followed by fisheries with an increase of 2.11 per cent and agriculture with 1.77 per cent.

The GDP of the industrial sector rose 9.69 per cent, while that of the construction sector jumped nine per cent, its largest growth in the past five years.

In the services sector, wholesale and retail increased 8.4 per cent, accommodation services and food rose 3.83 per cent and finance, banking and insurance rose 6.7 per cent.

Last week, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) forecast that Viet Nam's GDP would grow at 6.5 per cent in 2015 and 6.6 per cent in 2016.
