Public Bank takes on more social responsibility

Public Bank Vientiane Branch is enhancing its busin ess operations while embracing efforts to contribute to social responsibility programmes.

“The bank is not only operating its business on a financial basis in Laos but we are also thinking about social assistance,” said Country Head of the bank, Mr Cheah Kim Leong.

The bank recently organised the successful Sales Road Show 2015 as a part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of the bank in Laos.

Numerous businesses also participated by highlighting their products during the promotional activity.

One of the most popular activities was the children's colouring contest, which along with other entertainment brought happiness to both children and their parents.

Moreover, as an example of the bank's corporate social responsibility, it also invited a specialist team to provide free dental checks for their children aiming to promote and protect oral health.

“We invited the dental staff to the fun event to perform health checks as some children are reluctant to have their teeth checked at a hospital but their parents have taken this opportunity to bring them along,” Mr Cheah said.

The bank planned to show leadership in social responsibility by contributing especially to education and health because these sectors were vital to all people, he said.

The bank was founded in Malaysia and currently comprises four branches in Laos with headquarters at Hadsady village, Chanthabouly district and others located at Sikhay village, Sikhottabong district, Vientiane, plus Pakxe district, Champassak province and Savannakhet province.

The bank currently comprises 110 staff, most of whom are Lao, with the bank believing strongly in their management and administration abilities. The bank will continue to employ more staff and contribute to the prosperity of the Lao economy.

“The Chairman of Public Bank, Tan Sri Dato' Sri Dr Teh Hong Piow always tells the staff: ‘when the bank prospers, the staff will also prosper,'” added Mr Cheah.

“We are one of the commercial banks operating under the Bank of the Lao PDR guidelines and in line with government policy in socio-economic development contribution and business expansion,” Mr Cheah commented.

He believed that the bank's expansion would bring more financial resources to develop the Lao economy.
