VNPT reports large rise in profits

The Viet Nam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) has announced a year-on-year increase of 30.1 per cent in total profits in the first six months of this year.

The result was viewed by experts as a positive signal, because the period was the first six months of operation of VNPT after the group split from major mobile network operator MobiFone in 2014. MobiFone used to contribute up to 60 per cent of VNPT's profits.

The group's total revenue in the first half of the year increased 9.7 per cent, in comparison with the same period last year.

Its contribution to the state budget posted a year-on-year rise of 7.4 per cent.

VNPT said the positive results could be attributed to the partial implementation of its restructuring plan.

The group earned $297 million in profits in 2014.

In the areas of telecommunications and information technology, VNPT provides a wide and comprehensive range of products and services, such as voice, data, the Internet and other value-added services, deployed over an advanced network infrastructure, as well as many IT solutions.
