Conference promotes US investments in Vietnam

Big American and Vietnamese companies will share investment opportunities in Vietnam at a roadshow in the US on July 7.

American investors still play a minor role in Vietnam’s stock market

According to the State Securities Commission (SSC), nearly 100 American institutional investors will participate in the investment conference chaired by Vietnam’s Minister of Finance Dinh Tien Dung.

Two US billionaires, Wilbur L. Ross, Jr. of WL Ross & Co., and Harbinger Group founder Phillip A. Falcone, who are famous for making their fortunes through successful merger and acquisition deals, would deliver presentations to US investors on the case for investing in Vietnam.

The State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC), Vinacomin, BIDV, Vinalines, Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex), VinaCapital and Dragon Capital are among the largest business organisations from Vietnam to showcase at the event.

Ministry of Planning and Investment data showed that as of May 31, American investors have registered more than $11 billion in 742 direct investment projects in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, according to SSC figures, Vietnam has attracted nearly 1,000 American porfolio investors, including 600 institutional investors. They are holding more than one billion Vietnamese shares out of the 60 billion total shares registered in the Vietnam Securities Depository.

Vietnam’s ongoing economic restructuring process and international integration has attracted mounting interest from foreign investors, including American companies. The government has taken a series of drastic measures to improve the country’s business and investment climate to pave the way for both direct and porfolio investments into Vietnam.
