Laos to host Asean-China young business forum

The Lao Young Business Entrepreneur Association is set to build networking and business cooperation among the Asean members and China at a forum to be hosted by Laos from August 6-7.

Speaking at a press conference for the 7th Asean-China Young Entrepreneurs Forum 2015, President of the Young Entrepreneur Association of Laos Ms Valy Vetsaphong said this event will not only support business networking but it will enable young businesspeople to build cooperation in the region.

“The organisation of this forum is not only to promote the exhibition of products but to seek business matching between companies and bilateral business cooperation from each Asean country and China,” she said.

Previous forums have created good opportunities for business matching but business cooperation has not yet been truly achieved, she said.

“This time we are confident that there will be business cooperation between companies and business sectors from each country of Asean and China,” Ms Valy said.

As the host country, the Young Entrepreneur Association of Laos is coming up with new concepts for the event, which differ from previous forums.

For example, the Young Asean-China Outstanding Entrepreneurs Award will be added to the main activities of the event.

“This award will be able to inspire young entrepreneurs in the region to improve their skills for business operation,” Ms Valy said, adding that the presentation of awards will be based on the standards set by Asean and China.

The two day forum will be held at the Lao National Conference Hall at km 6. Most importantly, business matching, business networking and a panel discussion will be included in the forum agenda.

Some well- known guest speakers from Asean countries and Laos will be invited to speak about their business experience and some Lao government officials will also speak about business opportunities in Laos, various policies related to foreign investment and business operation in Laos.

Companies from Asean and China will also display their products and business information at booths at the forum.

The 6th Asean-China Young Entrepreneurs Forum 2014 was held in Myanmar last September.

It brought together around 300 young entrepreneurs from all Asean Member States and China.

Meanwhile the Office Head of the Lao Youth Union, Mr Alounxay Sounnalath, also said the young business forum of Asean plus China will strengthen the business linkages in the region.

“Young entrepreneurs play a key role in business operation. They always come up with innovative ideas. Of course, the upcoming forum will be a business platform for all participants to share business experiences with each other.”

Deputy Office Head of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Mr Phoutthavanh Nanthavong, Asean ambassadors and diplomats also spoke at the press conference.
