State enterprises look to improve efficiency

The government teamed up with key partners to host a seminar on Monday to discuss ways to make state-owned enterprises more efficient and competitive.

The seminar, titled State-Owned Enterprise Administration and Corporate Governance in Vientiane, was organised by the National Committee for Business Development under the Government Office and the Lao Securities Exchange (LSX) in cooperation with the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

The objective was to broaden government and enterprise employees' understanding of state-owned enterprise management and corporate governance in T hailand and the region.

The information will be useful for Lao state-owned enterprises in their efforts to be more transparent in business management and should encourage them to adopt better governance principles as a condition for registering on the securities exchange.

The seminar is seen as part of efforts by state-owned enterprises to modernise and adapt.

Participants shared their ideas and experiences with Thai lecturers on effective business management and development.

The seminar was an attempt by the LSX to encourage state and private companies to register on the exchange after improving their administrative structure, said LSX Chairman and CEO, Mr Vankham Voravong.

It was also an important platform for increasing cooperation and relations with the National Committee for Business Development, the LSX, and the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

Mr Vankham said he believed the knowledge gained at the seminar would increase the capacity of all participants to improve their companies' standards.

The seminar was also attended by the Vice President of the National Committee for Business Development, Mr Bounpon Vannachit.
