Japan invests $1 million in building safe vegetable production unit

Showa Denko Corp. of Japan has decided to build a factory producing safe vegetables in the northern province of Ha Nam, with a total investment capital of US$1 million.

The decision was taken at a working session of the corporation's Director General Daiken Murakami and the provincial People's Committee on April 8.

The factory, to be built in Duy Tien District's Dong Van II Industrial Zone, will adopt a cultivation system that uses LED lighting instead of sunlight.

It is expected to produce its first batch of products by the end of this year.

Daiken Murakami said that after carrying out surveys at some localities in Viet Nam, the corporation had found Ha Nam the most suitable because of its good investment policies, transport network and favourable geographical position.

If the experiment was successful, the corporation would invest in expanding the production scale, he said.

Provincial Party Committee Secretary Mai Tien Dung said the investment in establishing a factory was in compliance with the province's policy to develop agriculture for the industrialisation process.

The province would invest in infrastructure, electricity and an irrigation system, as well as create favourable conditions relating to policies and legal procedures for the group to build the factory, he said.

Showa Denko has built 21 factories producing safe vegetables in Japan so far.
