Salangane Nests company sets Asian record

A company based in the central province of Khanh Hoa was recognised as the owner of the highest number of Salangane islands, with the highest yield of natural Salangane nests in Asia.

The Khanh Hoa Salangane Nest Company, founded in 1990, received the certification in late March in HCM City, the firm said on its website.

It currently manages 32 Salangane islands, with 169 caves off the coast of the Khanh Hoa province, up from eight islands and 40 caves during the 1990s, owing to efforts made in scientific research and technical application.

The business is also coordinating with coastal localities from Quang Binh to Ba Ria-Vung Tau to develop Salangane islands.

Salangane, a swiftlet species, lives in caves and on limestone cliffs and makes its nest from its own saliva.
