project continues journey in northern Vietnam

As the continuation of its voluntary efforts to improve learning environments for underprivileged children in poor regions across Vietnam, the programme “Canon Friendship Schools” has tried to deliver the fresh joys of New Year to three schools in northern Vietnam.

By this programme, Canon, the world's leading image solutions provider, reaffirms its commitment in being the companion to Vietnamese future generation by completing the educational facilities for the classrooms Canon helped build with more necessary teaching and studying equipment.

The move aims to bring in the motivation for both school staff and students to overcome difficulties and keep moving forward to a brighter future.

The Yen Lap primary unit, part of Thang Quan school, is suffering from one of the worst conditions in Tuyen Quang province’s Yen Son district.

The lack in classrooms and seriously deteriorated state of school facilities has caused a lot of hardships for the teachers and students.

Understanding this situation, Canon voluntary crew did build three new classrooms for the school in 2009.

In the crew’s return this year, with the participation of the local authority and Yen Son Educational and Training Chamber, 90 pairs of desks and chairs of standard quality were presented to Yen Lap unit which is now so-called Canon – Yen Lap Friendship School together with a variety of new studying tools given to every student.

Canon also provided a brand new clean water system including a water container, pipes and a water filter for Ngu Mai unit, part of Hien Luong primary school in Hoa Binh province’s Dac Bac area, one of the first schools Canon helped build five solid classrooms in 2007.

Within the scope of this project, Canon volunteers delivered meaningful gifts in their return to Dai Xuan primary school in Bac Ninh province’s Que Vo district which Canon sponsored for new restrooms, washing area and Canon bookcase in 2010.

In this trip, Canon brought three bookcases with useful reference books for the school library, 12 pairs of desks and chairs as well as 700 presents to students.

With the desire to enhance the educational environment for teachers and students in underdeveloped mountainous areas as well as rise their spirits, since 2007 Canon’s project “For the next generation” has supported 82 school units across the country with 100 new classrooms, 2 new teacher rooms, 14 restrooms and washing areas of standard quality.

Besides, the company also makes annual visits bringing constant supplies such as cameras, computers, printers, bookshelves, and bunk beds to Canon Friendship Schools.

With the devotion to being a faithful companion of Vietnamese future generation, the project “Canon Friendship Schools” hopes to receive the support and contribution from community, volunteers and authorities in order to implement more meaningful activities dedicated to the children in need all over Vietnam.

The programme confirms the strategic commitment to Canon’s sustainable development in Vietnam and demonstrate the Kyosei philosophy “Live and work together for the common good” that Canon always pursuing.
