PM greets WEF leader in capital
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked for the World Economic Forum's close support to address weaknesses facing the national economy and find solutions to sharpen its competitive edge.
The Prime Minister was hosting a reception in Ha Noi for WEF Managing Director Philipp Roesler, who is on a working visit to Viet Nam to attend a workshop on improving national competitiveness.
Praising the co-operation between Viet Nam and the WEF, Dung asked the WEF to help Viet Nam organise events that could bring together world leaders and executives to talk about the country's economic situation and development goals, as well as ASEAN's prospects.
He said that a high-level Vietnamese Government delegation would attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, in January 2015.
For his part, Roesler underscored Viet Nam's leading role in building an ASEAN Economic Community by 2015, saying that ideas and information related to Viet Nam and ASEAN had attracted the attention of the international business community.
The upcoming World Economic Forum in Davos would host a number of events focusing on Viet Nam, including a "Viet Nam Night" with the participation of leading politicians and businesspeople from around the world, he noted.
Regarding national competitiveness, Roesler said this was a global issue that had drawn the attention of many countries, and the WEF would co-ordinate and help Viet Nam to assess and improve the country's competitiveness.
The workshop, themed "The Role of Business in Enhancing National Competitiveness in International Integration", was jointly held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the WEF.
It focused on the relationship between business competitiveness and national competitiveness, and suggested ways to improve both in Viet Nam.
