Italian businesses talk cooperation opportunities with Vietnamese counterparts

Many Italian firms recently joined a business forum which was organized in Ho Chi Minh City, hoping to find more cooperation opportunities with Vietnamese companies in various fields.

The “Italian Business Mission to Vietnam 2014,” held in Hanoi on Monday and Tuesday, took place on Wednesday at a hotel in District 1.

It included several trade promotion activities such as official discussions, governmental-level bilateral meetings, and an Italy-Vietnam economic forum.

The event welcomed an Italian delegation including firms that represented different fields like mechanics, medical equipment, energy and renewable energy, and infrastructure and transport.

Besides discussing investment potential offered by more than 100 industrial areas throughout Vietnam, it was also a chance for Vietnamese firms in the southern Vietnamese hub to have a better understanding of Italian businesses.

Representatives of the Italian delegation said at a press conference held the same day that they are still seeking more business opportunities in Vietnam and will try their best to solve small misunderstandings with local customs and firms.

The delegation was headed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Benedetto Della Vedova, with a welcome and reception from Lorenzo Angeloni, the Italian Ambassador to Vietnam.

Trade ties between Vietnam and Italy have improved over the years with apparel, footwear, seafood, and coffee the Vietnamese export staples to the South European country.

Italian shipments to the Southeast Asian nation include machinery, parts, and raw materials for food and medicine production.

Italy is the third-largest EU trading partner of Vietnam, Ambassador Angeloni said during a media meeting at the Italian Embassy in Hanoi on November 5.

The envoy added that he hopes bilateral trade will reach 3.5 billion euros (US$4.3 billion) this year.

Italy is Vietnam’s 18th largest export market, and the 15th largest import market of the Southeast Asian country, according to the Radio the Voice of Vietnam.

Trade value between the two countries topped nearly $3 billion in 2012.
