Huaphan hospitality responds to big visitor boost

Huaphan province is expanding construction of hotels and guesthouses in response to growth in the tourism sector.

Vietnamese investors have recently spent a great deal of money to invest in construction of a 3-star hotel.
Once this hotel is complete, it is expected to attract investment and more tourists into the province, in particular high-end tourists, Department Deputy Director Mr Phouvanh Phetmixay said.

Huaphan hasn’t had a 3-star hotel in the province previously.
Currently there are seven hotels, 52 guesthouses and resorts, 164 restaurants and 8 entertainment venues registered across the province.

At present these hotels, guesthouses, restaurants and entertainment venues can accommodate demand for services to domestic and foreign tourists staying and travelling in the province, he said.

However, if the number of tourists increased exponentially in future, it certainly would not respond well because some hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants still fail to meet expected standards and quality, he said.
Mr Phouvanh said in the past few years it had been observed that numbers of tourists coming to the province was growing constantly.

In 2012, the number of tourists was more than 25,000, increasing to 32,000 in 2013, and is expected to reach 37,000 people in 2014 according to projections.

In the first nine months this year, the province attracted 25,910 tourists, about 73 percent of plan.
The number included more than 11,400 local visitors, with the balance of 14,500 coming from abroad, largely from Vietnam, Thailand, and European nations respectively.

So far the province has designated 139 tourism sites, including 49 natural tourism sites, 32 cultural sites and 28 historic sites.

The provincial tourism sector is aiming to collect additional revenue of more than 3.71 billion kip in the final three months of this fiscal year after recording more than 10.38 billion kip in the first nine months.
