Self Holding Co., Ltd (SHD) is seeking to assist the Government of Laos to attract foreign investors to invest in the country.
The company this week invited investors from China, Malaysia, Taiwan and Singapore to the country to explore investment opportunities in agar-wood, rice production, road construction and property development.
The company organised a dinner party on Wednesday night to warmly welcome 100 guests including investors and government officials.
The event was jointly organised with the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Agricultural Promotion Association and relevant government organisations.
SHD was established in Laos last year. It is one of the very few companies in the world that offers insurance coverage for their investors. The company has also engaged lawyers from several countries to assist investors in their claims with the insurance company should the need arise.
The company currently is signing contracts with ketsana tree plantations around the country for 30 million of the trees, prized for their dark aromatic resin.
The company is also promoting organic rice production in the coming months particularly organic rice, company Founder CEO, Mr Tan Quee Huat said.
Laos has great potential for rice cultivation because of its vast unpolluted land but lack of investment continues to hamper the sector.
The company is also en couraging potential investments in property development, he said.
On this occasion, investors had opportunities to visit the special zones and see the potential for rice production, property development and agar-wood plantations in Laos, with cooperation from relevant sectors of the Lao government.
The company is looking towards construction investments in roads, building, hydropower, solar power and other infrastructure development opportunities in Laos.
Investment opportunities in Laos have expanded greatly but the country still has large potential areas for investment.
The Lao government is seeking to give the green light to a range of domestic and foreign investors who are serious about developing the country.
