Huaphan approves land concession for livestock breeding

Huaphan province has agreed to provide 85 hectares of land concession for livestock breeding to sell on the domestic market and export to neighbouring countries.

The agreement was signed in the province last week by the provincial Planning and Investment Department Director Mr Phonexay Inthavong and the Phonechaleuan Agriculture and Trade Promotion Import and Export Ltd Director Mr Amphone Malavong.

The ceremony was witnessed by the provincial Governor Mr Khamhoung Heuangvong, officials from the concerned sectors in the province and district authorities.

The project will focus on raising cattle, goats and fish at Ngou Leum cave in Viengxay district.

The period for the land concession is 35 years, with the company obtaining a credit of US$30,000.

Mr Phonexay said the the company would be able to extend the contract if the project proved to be productive.

The project will help create jobs for local people and increase their income, he said.

Mr Phonexay said the company was the first business operator to invest in a large project like this due to many businesses in the past only operating small farms as a family business.

The company will also promote people in the area to breed animals including poultry and livestock such as cattle and goats, he said.

Huaphan province comprises various areas for agricultural production such as planting crops and livestock breeding for investment.

If any companies hoped to invest in this sector, the province would provide a special policy for investors with the aim of encouraging more funds as the province still lacks promotion in this sector, Mr Phonexay said.

The province provides free land concession and revenue tax for 15 years, he added.

Livestock breeding around the country is continuing to expand, especially in this year, with the number of buffaloes increasing by 1 percent, goats by 4 percent and cattle by 5 percent.
