Women's Union holds cook stove promotion campaign
The Vientiane Women's Union and the Association for Rural Mobilisation and Improvement (ARMI) held a workshop last Wednesday to advertise and promote the sale of cooking stoves in Laos.
The workshop was presided over by the President of Vientiane Women's Union Ms Lamphoy Si-akkhachan, with representatives from the Lao Women's Union in Vientiane and the provinces of Vientiane, Champasack and Savanakhet in attendance.
The workshop aims to support the promotion campaign for the Improved Cook Stove Programme and develop a marketing and sales strategy for the participating cook stove manufacturers.
After completing the workshop the participants will be able to employ the new methods they learned in their daily business operations and have better methods of promoting their products to potential customers.
The production of cooking stoves is a growing business in Vientiane and other provinces of Laos, which is able to bring revenue to local people and help them escape from poverty, according to the Lao Women's Union.
Currently there are training programmes underway to upgrade the skills of producers in the capital and the provinces of Champassak, Savannakhet, and Vientiane, with manufacturers learning new techniques to produce more fuel efficient stoves which can save users money over the longer term.
Stoves produced by ARMI members will be given the organisation's logo to display. They will be marketed on their potential to save money over time through savings in the amount of charcoal burnt and also the stove's longevity.
The new cook stoves a re of higher quality and more durable than the ones typically found in local markets and have the potential to help women save money for their families.
