Shares advance but trading remains sluggish

Shares edged up on both the national stock exchanges this morning, but trading was sluggish.

 

The VN-Index on the HCM City Stock Exchange rose by 0.44 per cent to stand at 553.55 points on the exchange of 26.7 million shares.

The trading value was modest at VND340 billion or US$16.2 million.

With the gainers outnumbering the losers by 13 to 6, the VN30-Index gained 0.27 per cent to end at 603.22 points.

The Kinh Do Corporation (KDC) lost VND1,000 or $0.047 per share, along with other losing stocks such as the PetroVietnam Fertilisers and Chemicals Corporation (DPM), PetroVietnam Transportation (PVT) and the Da Nang Rubber Corporation (DRC).

The gainers included Vietcombank (VCB), Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), Hoa Phat Group (HPG) and Hoang Anh Gia Lai Group (HAG).

On the Ha Noi Exchange, the HNX-Index and the HNXFF-Index, comprising stocks with a minimum free float rate of 5 per cent, rose by 0.5 per cent to close at 74.87 points and 75.57 points, respectively.

The HNX30-Index ended at 149.66 points, rising by 0.97 per cent.

With only 18 million shares changing hands, the trading value reached VND170 billion or $8 million.
