Luang Prabang collects 147 billion kip from exports

Luang Prabang province has collected more than 147 billion kip over the first six months of the fiscal year after exporting agricultural and furniture goods to markets in the neighbouring countries of China, Vietnam and Thailand.

Luang Prabang province Governor Dr Khampheng Xaysompheng announced that in the first six months of the 2013-14 fiscal year, the province had exported more than 147 billion kip worth of products and which amounted to 35 percent of the annual plan.

According to the governor, the local goods were mainly exported to China which represented about 60.69 percent of the total. Thailand accounted for 22.19 percent, with Vietnam at around 17 percent and other countries at 0.05 percent.

The value of imported goods was recorded at 29.51 percent of the total plan for the fiscal year, with the majority being construction materials, household items and consumable goods.

3.65 percent of the total goods were imported from China, approximately 66.5 percent from Thailand and 29.79 percent from Vietnam.

Dr Khampheng also said that the province had more than 200 industrial processing factories and a total of 36 enterprise units had been registered with an investment capital of more than 53 billion kip in the first six months of the year.

Annualised macroeconomic growth in Luang Prabang stood at 9.2 percent for the first six months, while the province had set a growth figure of 9.7 percent indicating that the plan is almost on target.

The Gross Domestic Product of the province stood at more than 4.7 billion kip, with the income per capita standing at 10.67 million kip per person per year.

The provincial authorities were also able to collect revenue of more than 77.60 billion kip, with the expenditure being set at more than 124.98 billion kip.
