Stocks drop in morning trading

Shares dropped marginally this morning on both the national stock exchanges, extending yesterday losses.

On the HCM City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index lost 0.07 per cent to close at 568.98 points.

Liquidity continued to remain low with 30.5 million shares changing hands, worth VND697.4 billion, or US$33.2 million.

Blue chips reported mixed results with the VN30-Index edging up 0.05 per cent to reach 630.09 points.

The Kinh Do Corporation (KDC) earned VND1,500, or $0.071, per share and the technology FPT Group (FPT) rose by VND1,000, or $0.047, among six other gainers.

However, the Hoa Phat Group (HPG) lost VND7,900, or $0.37, per share to end at VND47,600, or $2.2, per share.

The other losers included big names such as the insurance firm Bao Viet Holdings (BVH), the PetroVietnam Low Pressure Gas Distribution (PGD) and the Masan Group (MSN).

On the Ha Noi Exchange, the HNX-Index closed 0.04 per cent lower at 79.87 points, while the HNXFF-Index ended at 80.84 per cent, losing 0.24 per cent.

The HNX30-Index finished at 160.73 points, 0.13 per cent lower than yesterday.

With 21 million shares changing hands, the total trading value reached VND217 billion, or $10.3 million, in the morning session.
