Lao, Thai advertising firms meet

Advertising business operators in Laos and Thailand have put networking between the two countries as a top priority ahead of Asean Economic Community (AEC) integration in 2015.

At a business matching session in Vientiane on Friday, Thailand's IBRIX Company Limited Managing Director, Mr Sakkachat Sivabovorn, said advertising was booming along with economic growth in the region, and business matching on both sides of the Mekong was essential.

“We have come to Laos because we want to meet and talk with our business colleagues to ask them what they are doing and tell them about our business,” he said.

Mr Sakkachat, who was head of the Thai advertising firms group visiting Laos, said the purpose of networking was to become formally familiar with other businesses in the industry, rather than to start any specific ventures.

He said preparation for AEC integration was important to both Lao and Thai businesses in the sector.

“The more we are familiar with each other the better we will be able to cooperate in the future, especially once the AEC comes into being,” he said.

“This is the first discussion on advertising between our two countries and it could double our trade value with business ties.”

Mr Sakkachat was optimistic on the practical benefits of good relations between the Lao and Thai advertising sectors, which could include improving quality through new techniques and advanced technologies.

“Commercial and business cooperation between Laos and Thailand has been commonplace for years, but when it comes to AEC, it means we can double our trade value,” he said.

Lao advertising firms are expected to attend the 2013 Sign Asia and Digital Sign Asia Expo in Bangkok from November 14-17.
