Chinese market opens in Bokeo

A Chinese market funded by a group of Chinese firms officially opened on Thursday in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone in Bokeo province.

The market is located in Tonpheung district, where there is a casino, with the objective of boosting trade and tourism and attracting further investment from local and foreign enterprises.

Deputy Prime Minister and President of the Lao National Committee for Special Economic Zones (NCSEZ), Mr Somsavat Lengsavad, and Minister to the Government Office and NCSEZ Vice President, Ms Bounpheng Mounphosay, and other senior government officials attended the opening ceremony.

Chairman of the Lao Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone Committee and President of the Hong Kong registered King Romans Group (also known as Dok Ngiew Kham), Zhao Wei, said the market will play a key role as an essential gateway for commercial links between communities in the heart of the Golden Triangle.

“More importantly, the market will attract foreign traders as well as boost tourism in the area, thanks to efforts by the Lao government and line development partners to support the construction of the market,” he added.

Senior company staff said the market includes accommodation and various other facilities worth aboutUS$80 million.

The market is built and attractively decorated in a Chinese style. A variety of products will be on display in the building, which contains clothes shops, restaurants, music stores, and many more retail outlets.
