Laos ready for 10th CAEXPO exhibition

Laos is ready to attend the 10th China-ASEAN EXPO 2013 to be held in Nanning, Guangxi, China from September 3-6 after the Lao National Organising Committee agreed to the preparedness of the business and government sectors.

Following different meetings among officials and business operators, the Lao National Organising Committee from the relevant sectors met last week in Vientiane to approve the Lao pavilion, the companies to attend, the photo exhibition and the Laos-China cooperation advertisement activity to be displayed at the event.

The meeting was chaired by Minister of Industry and Commerce, Dr Nam Vinhaket, who is also Vice President of the committee.

The meeting has agreed to approve the Lao pavilion, which is designed from the National Conference Centre model after the completion of the construction agreement with Guanxi Jinsheng Exhibition Engineering Company, which is set to cost US$50,000 at the beginning of last month.

Laos received an allocation of 86 booths to exhibit goods at the CAEXPO event, according to Trade and Product Promotion Department Director General, Mr Somvang Ninthavong.

The business sub-committee have selected 55 companies to join the event, including furniture and wood carving enterprises, handicraft and jewellery manufacturers, food and drinking products and advertisements.

General goods exhibition will be displayed at Hall 14, while 10 booths for Lao coffee will be displayed at Guangxi Exhibition Hall and two booths will be made available free of charge for investment advertisement and promotion at Hall 2, Mr Somvang said.

At this year's CAEXPO, the pavilion of Laos will be represented by the charming city of Vientiane, which is composed of the joint themes of “security, cleanliness, greenness, light, charm and civilisation, he revealed.

The charming city of Vientiane will be located at the eleventh rank close to Indonesia at ten (Hall 20), Mr Somvang explained.

The theme of this year's CAEXPO is “Regional Cooperation and Development: New Opportunities, New Impetus and New Stage”.

The number of business entrepreneurs in Laos interested in putting their products on display at CAEXPO is increasing every year.

More than 200 booths for 68 businesses were requested by the Lao business sector but the CAEXPO organising committee could provide only 86 booths, Mr Somvang said.

The expo is co-sponsored by the Chinese Ministers of commerce, trade and industry, the 10 Asean countries as well as the Asean Secretariat and was organised by the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China.

CAEXPO aims to promote the construction of a China-Asean free trade area, while sharing opportunities for cooperation and development.
