Bangkok Airways to become first foreign carrier into Nay Pyi Taw

Bangkok Airways recently announced its latest expansion to Myanmar by offering non-stop flights from Bangkok to Nay Pyi Taw, the capital city of Myanmar.

According to a press release from Bangkok Airways, beginning on September 30, 2013, the airline will be the first scheduled foreign air carrier to service this route and the only Thai airline to serve all three main cities of Myanmar.

Bangkok Airways President Mr Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth said it has long been the airline's plan to cover the three key cities of Myanmar by the end of September this year.

The first city was Yangon where Bangkok Airways has been offering three daily flights from Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi Airport), soon to be four flights per day starting October 27. Secondly, the Mandalay service will begin on September 15, offering four non-stop flights per week. And now the airline will fly to Nay Pyi Taw from September 30, with three flights per week.

Mr Puttipong said they considered the new sector to be a major milestone. Not only will this m ake Bangkok Airways the first scheduled foreign airline to fly into Nay Pyi Taw, it will also be the only Thai airline to serve all three main cities of Myanmar.

It is anticipated that the majority of passengers on the direct Bangkok- Nay Pyi Taw flights will be businesspeople and government officials. The other two routes will most likely ca rry mainly tourists.

Bangkok Airways is confident that with its strong reputation of offering a boutique flying experience, it will become a leading player in this market.
