Cooperation the focus of trade expo in China

Yunnan province: More than US$200,000 in Lao goods went on display at the 1st China-South Asia Exposition and 21st China Kunming Import and Export Fair, held in the bordering Yunnan province of China over the weekend.

The Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry sent furniture, jewellery, and other products to the two events, with 19 companies selling goods from 20 different booths. Overall, the total value of Lao produce on display was slightly higher than at last year's fair.

More than 20 Asian countries had exhibits on display at the trade events which ran from June 6 to 10, with the opening ceremony for the expo and fair attended by delegations from countries across the region, including many country's leaders.

Deputy Primary Minister of Laos, Mr Somsavat Lengsavad, said the Lao government regarded the expo and fair as important, attending both events this year.

The Lao government provides support for business groups in Vientiane and other provinces to display their products at the events.

Mr Somsavat said the two events were an important stage for strengthening cooperation at an international level.

The expo and fair allow China and South Asian countries to better communicate and cooperate, while increasing their friendship ties, he said.

Mr Somsavat said he represented the government and people of Laos at the events, and invited businesses from the respective countries to consider their investment options in Laos.

The aim of the expo and fair was to increase business opportunities for Asian countries at the international level, while promoting open dialogue, good cooperation and development.

Furthermore, it aids the development of business in Yunnan province, which borders Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.
