Chinese businesswoman eyes green technology market in Laos

A Chinese project called Green City is looking to supply Laos with green technology which is needed by countries around the world to address environmental issues.

President of Green City, Ms Rosita Wong, unveiled the reasons for her trip to Laos in an exclusive interview with Vientiane Times on Saturday.

“I came to Laos to convince the government officials and the private sector about our solutions to environmental concerns,” Ms Wong said.

Green City is a project of the Chinese-American East Group Inc., which visits different Asian countries to upgrade their renewable energy, solid waste, waste water and hospital waste management capacity.

Ms Wong, who is on a four-day trip to Vientiane, said she is planning to meet with officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mines and Ministry of Health to explain about the technology she can provide to help alleviate many environmental problems, such as waste management from hospitals and other industries.

In the city, Ms Wong will meet with the Vientiane Urban Development and Administration Authority, and hopes to convince them that the hospitals can use her equipment to dispose of hazardous waste such a s ne edles and the materials from infectious disease treatment.

Ms Wong explained that her green technology will turn organic waste, which makes up 60 percent of the 200 tonnes of garbage produced daily in Vientiane , into fertiliser.

Plastic bags, which account for 13 percent of rubbish, and paper, which makes up 16 percent, will be reused. The remainder will be turned into energy in several different ways.

She said that as the company produces a full set of green technologies, the authorities do not need to talk with other companies to attain them. Everything from mini-hydro power, solar and wind power, biogas and biomass all come together under Green City.

“We believe green technology is not something that deserves to be in place at just an industry level. It is a part of life and everybody should have it. We are helping the local government to find profit making and sustainable ways to solve their environmental problems,” Ms Wong said.

After visiting Laos, she will continue her trip to other Asian countries including Thailand, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam to talk about the technology.

She said Green City has planned to make a one-week visit to Vientiane in October for a business conference which will further introduce the benefits of the technology.
