Food producer expands output, supply
Food supplier Sengdeuane Farm in Vientiane province plans to open two more food supply centres this month after recently setting up its first outlet in Vientiane last month.
The first centre is in Donnoun village in Xaythany district, Vientiane, while two more are planned for the districts of Thoulakhom and Keo-oudom in Vientiane province.
“We are now fitting out and decorating these two new offices and will soon finish them,” the farm's General Director Ms Sengdeuane Thedsombandith said recently.
“After these two offices have opened in Vientiane province, we hope to have other offices in the provinces of Oudomxay, Bokeo, Luang Namtha and Borikhamxay in the near future,” she added.
Sengdeuane Farm produces many kinds of food for supply both in Vientiane and the provinces. The products include pork, chicken eggs, fish, and spiced shredded pork.
Mr Sengdeuane said the launch of the first office aims to supply buyers in the city and currently three traders are interested in being agents to sell their products.
She also plans to create about 100 fish ponds in Xaythany district. The farm currently has 25 ponds in Vientiane province.
She hopes the extra ponds will provide enough fish for future supply. “The 100 additional fish ponds will be completed by the end of this year,” she said. “At present we have enough pork to meet demand.”
“I also hope to invest in a shrimp farm in the future,” the entrepreneur added.
Ms Sengdeuane said she thought she could expand her operations successfully to produce food for the local market because she has her own animal feed factory, which opened a few months ago to produce feed for her pigs, poultry and fish.
Sengdeuane Farm is now encouraging farmers to grow sweetcorn for supply to the animal feed factory.
“Our expansion plans are set to be complete within the next two years if the business runs smoothly and we have the cooperation of the government,” she said.
Ms Sengdeuane set up the farm in 2008 with 400 pigs. That number has now grown to thousands of pigs and piglets. The farm is considered to be a model of productivity in Vientiane province, because it also raises poultry and fish for supply to Vientiane and provincial markets.
The farm breeds piglets naturally and through artificial insemination. Ms Sengdeuane hopes to sell about 200 piglets each week to other pig farms, and to farmers who want to rear them. The farm also has a slaughterhouse.
The farm also has a waste water treatment reservoir, and state environment officials regularly check the treatment system. As an additional health measure, vehicles entering the farm are first washed.
Pig manure is supplied to nearby vegetable growers. Some is also fermented as biogas and used as fuel on the farm.
