International sports-leisure expo opens

Indoor and outdoor sport equipment, leisure, health, and fitness facilities are among the items on display at the first international Sport and Leisure exposition that opened in HCM City yesterday.

Speaking at the opening of Sportex Vietnam, Mai Ba Hung, deputy director of the city Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said people in Viet Nam pay increasing attention to sports, leisure, and healthcare activities, giving the sports and leisure industry a good opportunity to develop.

The event would be a good forum for local and foreign businesses to compare notes and find partners, he added.

Nguyen Ngoc Tien, director of Viet Phap Company Limited, which is displaying indoor and outdoor fitness and sports equipment, told Viet Nam News that Vietnamese companies can produce sports equipment of international standard.

His company exports a lot of them, including basketball boards and outdoor fitness equipment, he said, hoping that the exhibition would help locals to know more about his company's brands and persuade them to buy more locally made products.

Being held at the Tan Binh Exhibition and Convention Centre by the Minh Vi Exhibition and Advertisement Services Co Ltd and the city Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the event will go on until May 12 and expects to attract 3,000 visitors.
