Shares climb on low trading value

Both stock indices closed this morning's session in the black, but continued sluggish trading by investors pushed market volume and value lower.

The benchmark VN-Index on the HCM City Stock Exchange climbed 0.79 per cent to 476.63 points, while the VN30 (measuring performance of the top 30 shares by market capitalisation and liquidity) jumped 0.86 per cent to 536.24 points.

Advancers outnumbered decliners by 104-69, but up to 134 shares closed flat.

Only 24.3 million shares, worth more than VND394 billion (US$18.8 million), changed hands by the end of this morning.

Tan Tao Investment Industry (ITA) was still the most active code on trades of 2.36 million shares, followed by Na Ri Hamico Mineral (KSS) and Mirae Co (KMR), which each saw over one million shares. All three shares gained between 3.2-6.7 per cent.

On the Ha Noi Stock Exchange, the HNX-Index also rose 0.67 per cent to 58.66 points but the value of trades was low at just VND99.4 billion ($4.7 million).

The market condition was neutral with 67 codes advancing, 68 declining and 236 closing unchanged.

Property developer Sacomreal (SCR) was the most active code with 1.8 million shares changing hands, surging 4.7 per cent to VND6,700 a share.

Trading will resume at 1pm.
