Ha Noi exports surge to $801m in January

The capital city's export turnover totalled US$801 million in January, a year-on-year increase of 21.1 per cent.

Exports of local businesses rose 25.8 per cent this month, and ten out of 11 export products reported increases as well, including farm produce (up 49.7 per cent), computer components and peripheral devices (44.4 per cent), and glass and glass products (31.4 per cent).

Experts forecast rapid growth in export for the city, citing clear signs of recovery in the global market.

However, the capital city also faced a 0.95 per cent surge in inflation. Experts blamed the spike in prices on rising consumer demand ahead of the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday in February.

The municipal Statistics Office reported that prices rose in 10 out of the 11 categories of goods and services used to calculate the consumer price index, with food and services rising by 1.84 per cent and garments and footwear by 1.47 per cent.

Only the cost of transportation saw a decrease, falling 0.14 per cent from December.

Ha Noi 's economy in 2013 is forecast to face difficulties and challenges more severe than in 2012.

The city predicts a growth rate of 8-8.5 per cent based on the analysis of the domestic and global situation.
